Hypothryoidism and its symptoms

Let me talk to you about hypothyroidism or under function of the thyroid gland. The thyroid gland which is shaped like a butterfly is located in the front of the neck, just below the Adam’s apple.

Now, an under active thyroid has a host of unappealing symptoms: brittle nails, hair loss, fatigue, lethargy, brain fog, hoarseness, depression, joint stiffness, muscles aches and pain, sensitivity to cold, constipation, slow metabolism, unexplained weight gain and inability to lose weight, complications in conceiving/carrying it full term.

It is a small gland but is nonetheless very important. This gland secrets hormones vital for your body functions, Now, medicines help but they do not repair your gland. Even after taking medicines (altroxin) for more than 10 years, I still suffer from all these symptoms, their intensity might be low, but they still plague me one way or the other. People close to me know my constant struggle with fuzzy memory and weight loss.

So what option you have other than taking medicines for your whole life?

Yoga, of course helps. Yoga has specific asanas namely:

  • Sarvangasana
  • Bhujangasana
  • Naukasana
  • Ushtrasana
  • Dhanurasana
  • Chakrasana
  • Simhasana
  • Surya Namaskara and many more.

Recently, I came across this video by Luke Coutinho, a well known nutritionist from Mumbai/India who has shared great tips to manage your hypothyroidism. And, one of them is consuming Coconut Oil. So here it is. My bottle of cold pressed virgin Coconut Oil. Two teaspoons daily, doesn’t have any taste. But, can work wonders.

Did you find improvement after taking coconut oil? I too have hypothyroidism.

    • Hi…I take out my report every 6 months. So the next one is due in December end. I will know then. However, in the last 4-5 months, I have witnessed a slow down in my hair fall, I sleep well and my eczema hasn’t flared up (which it usually does from the month of August all the way till Feb-Mar). So these are some positive signs. The rest I will come to know later in Dec or Jan. However, as you are suffering from hypothyroidism which leads to slow metabolism, please do regular walking, swimming or weight training exercises. I also do Yoga (naukasana, chakrasan, ushtrasana, halsana, simhasana, simhasana) for hypothyroidism and pranayama. Take care! Will post my results in this post as soon as I get the tests done.
